Childcare traineeships are an excellent avenue for people who want to work with children, but may not have the schooling or experience yet.  A traineeship provides the opportunity to learn from education professionals in an early childhood environment and lasts 12 months. Childcare traineeships are popular in Australia and the U.K., and can lead to all kinds of career opportunities once certification has been received.

Childcare traineeships are an excellent way for someone to get their feet wet in the world of childcare, especially if this is something being considered as a long term profession. Working with children may appear to be all fun and games, but its hard work, too. Everyone has a bad day now and then, including the children.  A trainee will work with children under the supervision of an already qualified staff member and help with planning age appropriate curriculum and activities. This type of on-the-job training really helps an interested trainee understand the fundamentals of childcare from ages 0-6, develop patience, and create strong peer to peer relationships with others in their field.  As you work as a trainee, you will have the unique opportunity to see the growth and development of the children at the daycare facility, as well as, learn the art of good parent communication.

Childcare traineeshipsare paid jobs, though the amount of payment varies from position to position. The type of certification received at the end of a traineeship is called a certification 3 and means you will be considered a qualified childcare provider. Be sure to research salary scales before accepting a trainee position, and learn if your particular traineeship requires an enrollment fee.  Another financial resource you may wish to look into is government programs available to help maintain the cost of living while you complete your childcare traineeship.
